Christian Devotions Speak UP! with Ron Wildes

By Christian Devotions SPEAK UP! Radio Host - Last updated: Tuesday, August 31, 2010
August 31 Ron Wildes, Author of Swamp Ponderings-A 1971 graduate of Camden County High School, Ron writes about much of his Southeast Georgia hometown of Saint Mary’s—especially the unusual characters he encountered during his childhood. Rev. Wildes also tells of his family, including his late parents, Julian and Doris Wildes. He uses a storytelling style reminiscent of his grandfather, Mack Wildes, who was renowned throughout that area of Georgia as the surveyor of Charlton County and a blacksmith.  After high school, Rev. Wildes received his Bachelor of Science degree in History, Archeology, and Political Science from Shorter College. Then, in 1979, he earned his Master’s of Divinity degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

The Sharpsburg resident enjoys his family, including a son, twin daughters, and his grandchildren. In fact, illustrations in his book were drawn by his children. You can find his book Swamp Ponderings at www.amazon.com.

August 24 Ken Smith, Canada Church Growth – Ken and his wife Barb started their journey into Canada when he saw an ad from Christian Standard, looking for a minister in Outlook, Saskatchewan Canada.  They visited the small church and were convicted to see if they could raise the required monies needed to sustain their family through this move.  Thirty days later, they were on their way to a new church, a new country, and a new mission to plant churches in Canada. Tune in to Speak UP! and discover the journey that Ken and his family embarked on and how God led them to plant churches and bridge the gap between our neighboring country.  If you would like more information on Canada Church Growth, contact Ken at kensmith45@aol.com and add Canada Church Growth to the subject line.

Christian Devotions Speak UP! with Chris and Tracy Byrd

By Christian Devotions SPEAK UP! Radio Host - Last updated: Tuesday, August 17, 2010
August 17 Former Heavyweight Champion of the World, Chris Byrd and his wife Tracy-After winning the silver medal at the 1992 Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona, the Lord slowed Chris’s pace, allowing him to take an inventory of his life. He was married to his beautiful wife and best friend, Tracy, had an adorable baby girl, Jordan, and a future that appeared bright. Everything seemed right on track, yet something was missing.
It was at this time that Tracy felt the calling of Christ.  Her church attendance was infectious, and one day Chris found himself following his family into God’s house.  Chris filled the empty void with Christ and bounced back professionally, hungry to achieve his boxing dreams.  He added weight to enter the heavyweight division and accumulated 36 professional victories.  Byrd was one of the world’s best heavyweights from the late 1990s into the mid 2000s.
Chris’s greatest boxing triumph was a win over Evander Holyfield on December 14, 2002.  His lopsided, unanimous decision brought him the IBF Title in an impressive performance against one of the biggest names in boxing history.
Find out more about Chris and his new ministry with Outreach Promotions at www.chrisbyrd.com.

Christian Devotions Speak UP! with Cindy Scinto

By Christian Devotions SPEAK UP! Radio Host - Last updated: Wednesday, July 21, 2010
July 20- Cindy Valenti-Scinto-Cindy was a healthy 40-year-old woman living in Spokane, Washington. Not overweight, no high cholesterol, no high blood pressure, non-smoker, organic, mostly vegetarian diet, no family history of heart disease—the doctors saw no reason to be concerned about her heart. Yet after that first heart attack, she endured 32 heart catheterizations, 11 stents, two open-heart surgeries, and a thoracotomy that was part of an experimental program to grow new vessels around Cindy’s heart. All this occurred in only three years.
In May of 2005, she was placed on the heart transplant list after surviving cardiac arrest two times. With 70 people here in the Northwest waiting for a heart, the transplant surgeon estimated it would be nine months to a year before one became available. Her time was short. Don’t miss the rest of this exciting, inspirational story and discover how Cindy is doing today. She has written A Heart Like Mine, Finding God’s Will For Your Life, and you can read more about her at www.cindyscinto.com.

Christian Devotions Speak UP! with Lisa McKay

By Christian Devotions SPEAK UP! Radio Host - Last updated: Wednesday, July 7, 2010
July 6 - Lisa McKay- Lisa never wanted to be anyone’s wife—let alone a preacher’s. What she wanted was to go to college, find a corporate job in a big city, and live the life of a successful, independent woman in an adorable brownstone. Those were the plans until she met Luke—a non-Christian and definitely not a preacher. A chance conversation in Lisa’s workplace parking lot began a relationship that found them married a little more than a year later.  In addition to supporting Luke in his role as a shepherd, the Lord has called Lisa to a teaching and writing ministry. Her first book, You Can Still Wear Cute Shoes…And Other Great Advice from an Unlikely Preacher’s Wife, was be released by David C. Cook on February 1, 2010. Check out Lisa’s blog and her work at www.apreacherswife.com.
