Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. I Timothy 7:17 NIVSB
“Zero cents and zero dollars.” That was the balance in my checking account just a few days ago. Believe me, I was shocked — thought there was enough to last me until my next pay day. I was wrong. Fear crept through me. Would I manage another day without money?
Teary eyed, I wondered if God was good for His promises. I’d heard how others were provided for, but would God seek after my needs?
I will provide, He whispered. Trust. I wasn’t sure how my needs would be met, but I had to have faith they would be.
I went to my knees in prayer, lifting my heart before Christ and claiming the promises He’d made in scripture. God was quick to teach His promises were true. I didn’t have much, but school was one of the things I wanted. I knew I couldn’t afford it and with an empty checking account, it became clear I couldn’t pursue it.
Several months prior I’d applied for a student grant and was denied. My mother offered to pay for a class, so I signed up. I took the class and made the grade I desperately needed to qualify for the grant.
Months passed while I waited for approval. My days seemed numbered as to what I could do and my checking account grew weary. The day the letter came to say I’d qualified, I was thrilled. I checked my grades online and verified the grant had gone through. God had heard my cries and answered.
I registered for more classes and soon the money came. I grew satisfied in knowing God met a bigger need in my life. I was registered for the next term without worry and my classes were paid.
Rich doesn’t describe my bank account but “satisfied” is exactly the way it should be. My needs were met in ways I couldn’t begin to describe. God does provide. Not always in the way we think, but in the way He feels it needs to be provided.
When you struggle with financial provision, stand firm in prayer. Trust your needs to the Great Provider.
