My First Christmas in Heaven – Nancy Dutton

MY FIRST CHRISTMAS IN HEAVEN

I see the countless Christmas trees around the world below,
With tiny lights like heaven’s stars reflecting on the snow.
The sight is so spectacular – please, wipe away that tear.
For I am spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year!

I hear the many Christmas songs that people hold so dear,
But the sound of music can’t compare with the Christmas choir up here.
I have no words to tell you the joy their voices bring,
For it’s beyond description to hear these angels sing.

I feel how much you miss me and see the pain inside your heart,
Though I may seem so far away, we’re really not apart.
So be happy for me, My Loved Ones, you know I hold you dear,
And be glad I’m spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.

I send each of you a special gift, from my heavenly home above.
I send each of you a memory of my undying eternal love.
After all, love is a gift more precious than pure and shining gold.
It was always more important in the stories Jesus told.

Please love each other always as Our Father said to do,
For I cannot count the blessings or the love He holds for you.

So have a happy Christmas and wipe away that tear,
For I am spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year!

(In memory of my father 2002)

God’s Gift for Your Soul – Nancy Dutton

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

“Daddy, can we open the gifts now?” My sister and I knew there would be gifts under the tree on Christmas morning. We jumped out of bed in our matching red and white pajamas and ran to the tree to see if we would get our requested bicycles, Barbie dolls, and sewing kits. Knowing our father loved us, we were confident we would receive good things. He gave us what we asked for plus even more than we expected.

My sister and I thanked Daddy for the presents.

Our Heavenly Father also blesses us with His gifts – some we ask for and some are surprises; gifts such as love, hope, joy, grace, and salvation. On Christmas Day we celebrate the most treasured gift from God, the birth of His Son, Jesus, and His sacrifice that was given freely. If Jesus had never lived, died, and risen, our sins would not be forgiven and washed away. Our soul’s salvation would not exist.

Like discovering presents under the tree, the Bible reveals to us the gift of life. 1 Corinthians states that “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, he was buried, and was raised on the third day…” God’s Word says after Jesus’ resurrection, He appeared to Mary Magdalene, Peter, James, His disciples, the apostles, and Paul.

If you have not asked the Lord Jesus to come into your life to forgive you, invite Him to be a part of your daily life. God loves you and wants you to surrender your life to Him. He will erase your sins and guide you. For both new and long-time believers, rejoice and thank Him for the glorious gift of eternal life with our Savior.

Renewed and Rewired – Nancy Dutton

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; They will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

I clung daily to God’s promise in Isaiah when I feared that health problems would end my life. Every morning, I would say, “Lord, I don’t know what the next step is, but I know you will reveal it to me.” My faith grew as I waited and trusted God to restore my ability to eat food.

Before being ill, I enjoyed writing poems, haikus, and stories about children and their pets. One day the Lord told me to write for His glory. Each day I propped my ailing body up in a chair at the computer and wrote about the fear of dying and the encouragement I received from reading the Bible. The heaviness released and lifted.

After a while, God blessed me with enough stamina to walk around a nearby lake. Then I gained more endurance and took short hikes on easy trails. I discovered new trails in the mountains nearby and marveled at the beauty surrounding me. My chattering mind stopped when I was outdoors. I was grateful He was restoring me. Even Jesus took time alone to relax and replenish.

When I saw an eagle soaring above, the words of Isaiah came alive for me. I could walk without fainting. God took my broken vessel and turned me into the person He wanted me to become.

Are you struggling with health, grief, or relationship problems? Do you want God to revive and rewire you? Look to the talents God has given you, such as writing, art, music, painting, or helping others. While you do these things, you will quiet down and hear the voice of God and feel refreshed.
