Determined Mother

Then Jesus said to her, ?O woman, your faith is great; it shall be done for you as you wish.? And her daughter was healed at once.  Matthew 15:28 NASB

(Photo courtesy of office.microsoft.com.)What a beautiful story of a determined mother fighting for her demon-possessed daughter. We don’t know specifics about how they came to their circumstances, yet we see a mother who recognized she needed help and would stop at nothing to get it. By her persistence, her daughter’s life would be forever changed.

Her mother came with a firm conviction within her heart that she must find Jesus at all costs, no matter what people might think or say about her. There were no quiet whispers or faint pleas. She didn’t come to bargain her way for help. Read her story in Matthew 15. She cried out with a loud voice.

Even when the disciples became annoyed with her because she continued shouting out to Jesus—and they wanted Him to send her away—this mother never lost focus of why she was there. She never gave in to ridicule or doubt. She knew she was in the presence of the One who could help her and heal her daughter. Her faith dropped her to her knees, she proclaimed that faith to Jesus, and He healed her child.

Their story ends with a great blessing. O woman, your faith is great; it shall be done for you as you wish. Jesus did just as she had pleaded. May those same words be said of all of us, that our faith is great. Regardless of the circumstance or demons we face, my prayer is that we be like this mother. She relentlessly pursued Jesus, was confident in who He was, and was assured of His healing power.

Remember, He didn’t leave us in our demon-possessed state: our lusts, greed, anger, and self-destructive nature. He gave up everything that we might be healed and set free. Call out to Jesus in faith. He will answer your prayers.
