Many years ago, I attended a conference with several prayer group members from my church.
Powerful times of adoration and insightful teaching marked the services. During a moment of intense prayer and praise, the leader encouraged us to push through all discouragement and distractions. He explained that God was releasing something new from heaven through the spiritual labor of our prayers. In the same way women are encouraged to push while giving birth, he encouraged the men to sing the word push while the women sang breathe. The atmosphere vibrated with God’s presence as our voices swelled with the music.
This was one of my most impactful encounters with the presence of God, yet I only noticed what I missed. As a single woman, I felt alone and disconnected from the moment.
Instantly, an image of Jesus appeared to me, and I heard Him singing, “Push.” Weeping joyfully, I joined in the song and rejoiced with those around me. I learned important lessons about Him at that moment. I was not alone. He was there all the time. I needed to look beyond the natural realm and see with spiritual eyes.
God’s love washed over me as we sang. His voice swept away my anxiety and doubt. Jesus, the lover of my soul, cast out my fears. He invited my participation. My sitting on the sidelines and watching hindered His activity.
None of us are ever alone. God continually pours His love on us. But our participation is vital to His work in churches, communities, and nations. God moves to bring His glory into every part of the earth. He wants us to push through every attack of the Enemy. Then He will release fresh hope, abundant joy, and new blessings.
How can you push through in prayer to participate in God’s activity on earth?
