Although options existed, my husband urged us to stay on the path.
My family recently loaded up our two dogs for a short hike on a mild winter day. The trail wasn’t crowded, so we took our time and enjoyed ourselves. The trail was pretty easy but a bit uphill as it zigzagged across the mountain.
As we walked, I noticed other trails veered off in several places. My husband explained that people had tried to take shortcuts instead of remaining on the trail. These areas were eroded and often went uphill. My husband advised us to stay on the trail, which was unobstructed and not eroded.
I pondered on this as I walked. How often do we stray from God’s path? We may veer off the main trail and make one of our own, but all this does is create erosion in our relationship with God. We create unnecessary obstacles for ourselves because we stop seeking His will and let our selfish desires be our compass. Then our happiness and peace start to erode.
Straying from the path often means an uphill battle because we try to navigate by ourselves rather than let God guide us. Pray and ask God to help you stay on the right path–His perfect will for your life.
What areas in your life are causing erosion in your relationship with God?
