I once found a small, abandoned bird’s nest. The wind, no doubt, had blown it from a tree. I enjoyed examining my new nature treasure and seeing all the materials used to create it. What an industrious little bird must have created this one. I saw string, twine, a piece of an old tea bag, many sticks, and dried mud.
But the most interesting item the little bird used to build his home was a small piece of ribbon made of black and white checkered material, which made it stand out. I couldn’t help but ponder the small bird’s choice. She needed one more item for that place in the nest, and she picked up a piece of ribbon. I’m guessing she didn’t concern herself with doubts about the item in her beak as she carried it to her nest. Doubts such as, “Will it work? Are others using similar things? Will it be good enough?”
I wonder how often God has called me to do something, using what was in my hand. But I hesitated because I didn’t think I could do it just right. God doesn’t call me to be the best at a task nor to do the work perfectly. He asks me to look at what’s in my hand and use whatever I see to do the work He’s called me to.
What is God asking you to do to serve Him and His kingdom? Look at what is in your hand, trust Him, and say, “Yes, Lord.”
