At church, a young mother of three spoke. She had lost her husband in a freak accident seven months before. The listeners sat in awe as they heard her explain where her strength came from. She trusted God to provide, and she even shed tears for her listeners. She knew she had God to hold on to, but she also had the support of her church family.
When we think of being curled up in a comfy chair, wrapped up in a quilt with hot coffee and holding a book, different things come to mind. These circumstances can be comforting but not sustainable once the coffee is cold, and we must get out from under the covers. God’s grace must be an inside comfort.
Friends and family cheer us on when awake, and we pass that on. Hope is a strong comfort when going through life’s storms. Not feeling alone softens the suffering.
And we can sleep soundly in God’s graces. A rested soul soaks up God's presence. “Fear Is a Liar” is a popular song about fear robbing our rest and stealing our happiness. But the song's focus is letting the fire of God’s love cast out our fears.
Ask God to help you feel His graces daily.
