I awoke to pray at three o’clock one morning. I had done the same the previous day and the day before—this thanks to the invitation via a “Daily Jesus Devotional” video I encountered.
I was a few minutes behind for my early morning date with God on the first day. I had turned the alarm off and briefly fell back asleep. However, the following morning, I awoke without the alarm and eagerly rose to pray.
While I believe God is pleased to hear our prayers at any hour of the day, something extra special happens when we seek our Creator in the wee hours of the morning. The surroundings are ultra quiet, and the peace of God feels overwhelming.
According to Inspirational Grace, “In the stillness, as the world sleeps, our souls become more receptive to the voice of God. In the Bible, the third hour of the day is often associated with significant moments of divine intervention.”
Making my way to my thick exercise mat that transforms into my prayer mat, I knelt and lowered my chest, arms, and forehead to the floor. Apart from a few body shifts, this was my primary posture during the powerful prayer that covered many areas of life.
On the second morning, I prayed in my family room, sitting in the recliner and covered by a soft blue blanket, which felt like a comforting hug from God. After repeating my previous prayer—followed by the Lord’s Prayer—I prayed the following:
Dear God,
I greet You in the stillness of the morning
Peace and quiet
All calm
No storming.
The three a.m. hour
Praying
Listening
Resting under Your power.
Only the sound
Of the kitchen clock ticking
But spirit relaxed
No inner kicking.
Stress and anxiety
Have floated away
As I sit with You
On this brand-new day.
Thank You, God, for being my and my family’s resolve
Taking the cares and troubles of the day
Making for us a mighty new way
And fully blessing this glorious day.
In Jesus’ Name
I am honored to pray
And say
I love You, God.
Amen.
Plan a special time daily to spend time with God through prayer.
