“Why won’t she open her gifts?” I asked my friend.
“We don’t know, but she always stores them away in the top of her office closet,” she replied.
We thought it strange—maybe a bit rude. On several occasions, co-workers selected a gift, wrapped it, and gave it to her, along with good wishes for her birthday. It seemed only courteous to open the gift and acknowledge the effort. But in her eccentric way, she refused the gift.
In sharp contrast, my grandson looks forward to his birthday gifts, expects to receive them, and anticipates what, when, and how he will receive each one. He receives one the night before, one on his birthday morning, and the rest at strategic intervals throughout the day. He delights in opening each one and never refuses a gift.
Similarly, God has provided a gift for everyone. God invites us to accept Jesus into our hearts as our Lord and Savior, saving us from our sins. We must only receive His gift of eternal life. After doing so, we spend the rest of our lives opening and unpacking the wonderful riches God has in store for us. Sadly, many refuse God’s gift.
Receive the gift of God and know your eternal home is with Him in heaven.
