Illusion or Reality

Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.  1 Corinthians 13:12 NIV

I drifted into a dream and pictured myself as the only “real” person. Everyone else was a shadow, a puff of smoke, a figment of my imagination. Do you ever feel that way?

Someone once told me we know people in our dreams because each is our creation, born in our brains. Our minds are powerful tools, express trains to real and imaginary destinations in time and space.

When my father suffered from the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease, I helped him balance his checkbook. During those precious moments, I could sense an inkling of his frustrations, a taste, a hint of his thoughts, or lack thereof. It was a gift to empathize and understand how it felt to grasp at memories slip-sliding away.

Will I contract this disease? I wondered. Will my memories, my mental abilities gradually disappear, just like Daddy’s? Those times with my father were humbling eye-opening experiences.

The Bible teaches us that Christ is the only reality. All else, things and relationships, will fade away and be forgotten. Jesus said He is the way, the truth, and the life. Oswald Chambers aptly reminds us, “Every relationship not based on loyalty to Christ will end in disaster.”

Approach each day with fearless faith. Let negative things and people slip away. Stay focused on Christ as He reveals Himself to you. Focus plus faith equals reality. Allow illusions to fade, hold on to Jesus, and trust Him today.
