Adventures in Dating

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.  Proverbs 3:5 NIV

I was born blind, but when I was born again, God opened my eyes—not by a spectacular miracle, but by quietly working in my life. I could choose to magnify God or my problems.

New environments can be frustrating for a blind couple to navigate, but they can also be rewarding. One day, we decided to go to a mall. My wife shopped while I read a book. We used paratransit at this mall—a service requiring early reservations but one that often arrives late. Since this is a shared ride, people must start in advance.

When we got to our destination, though, another adventure began. Finding stores in the mall sometimes challenged us. But we managed to get around by taking a kind person’s arm or just using our white canes. Above all, we learned to cry to God.

We decided to eat out but needed directions. After praying, God softened a stranger’s heart. She overheard us and asked if we needed help. Proving trustworthy, she guided us to our restaurant and then disappeared.

Each of us faces challenges while walking life’s path, but God wants to encourage us. As followers of Christ, we serve a God who turns obstacles into opportunities. In Scripture, God’s arm represents His strength. He extends His arm to us in intimate fellowship.

Every detail of life is crucial. However, we must also listen to Jesus carefully. Searching the Scriptures is imperative, for this is the primary way God speaks. Scripture is His final Word.

Instead of letting Christ guide us around life’s obstacles, we often don’t listen to Him. Using our white canes of pride and self-confidence, we run into walls and blame Him for our obstructions.

Sometimes, God’s timing seems slow, and we take things into our own hands. But unlike paratransit, He is always faithful and on time. We are all blind to His ways, so we need Him to open our eyes to opportunities.

Don’t procrastinate. Open your heart to Christ and confess your sin. If you are already a follower, search His Word for wisdom.
