Our Best Bet

But they urged Him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening, the day is almost over.” So He went in to stay with them.  Luke 24:29 NIV

I did stay there too long, but I am a “stayer.” It is part of my character. I found this verse comforting as I sat gazing at a sunny day. Luke describes how Jesus stayed with His followers on the road to Emmaus after the resurrection. Jesus, too, was a stayer. He will always remain with us—the believers and the doubters. We humbly walk in the shoes of Jesus, our Lord. He rose so He could stay with us.

We, too, can be stayers or flashy sprinters. In our faith, we must stay true to our simple values. We can love God and show signs of staying to support our family, friends, and neighbors in our community and beyond.

Jesus has always stayed at my side through all the melodramas of the past. I stay and pray for His blessing. He is our faith’s stayer. Christians stay close to the rails because Jesus is our best bet. Make sure you do.
