I’ve been hauling rocks. For some regular folks, hauling rocks sounds like a chore. But the fellow “rockers” get it. There’s always another cool rock out there that we must have. But why? For more definition, I border my large flower beds and mulch areas with rock lines. Other fellow rockers may line up rocks on windowsills or create a decorative pile outside. And, of course, there’s always the pet rock option.
To get these rocks, we must haul them. I lug rocks, two or three at a time, from a spot about a mile’s hike from home. I love how they look when I beautifully lay them out. But sometimes I feel tired and lack the endurance to get the job done.
Maintaining relationships with fellow Christians can feel like hauling rocks. We need every ounce of strength to endure communication issues, dodge offenses, and overcome misunderstandings. But we need to work on these things to live in harmony and work together in the kingdom of God.
Consider the many possible outcomes of living in harmony. For starters, the world will witness God’s goodness and faithfulness to His people. Imagine the good works we can accomplish when we humbly toil together to serve others. We may never know all that God fulfills on this side of eternity when we harmoniously endure under Christ’s leadership.
If you have relationships that make you feel as if you are hauling rocks, ask the Lord to grant you endurance and encouragement. In this way, you can see the fulfillment of God’s will for the task at hand. Also, you will learn to develop and maintain healthy relationships.
