Embracing God’s Plan

A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.  Proverbs 16:9 NKJV

Sadly, this wasn’t the first time I experienced these feelings while working in my role, and I knew it wouldn’t be the last. I remember the moment when I received my job offer. I was excited about the opportunity to enter the human resources industry and believed I would finally have an exciting career. However, shortly after starting the position, I knew I had made a terrible decision to leave my former job.

Looking back on my decision, I had ignored all the warning signs God provided me and chose to fulfill my desires. Ultimately, my heart planned my way, but I failed to allow God to direct my steps.

Planning our way is not necessarily bad, and we should remember to plan our way carefully. But planning our way does not mean we are lords over our lives. Ultimately, we should surrender every plan to God’s will. We can make detailed plans but cannot implement them successfully unless they correspond to God’s plan.

As we attempt to live fruitful and prosperous lives, we are tempted to plan our way and direct our steps. God wants us to live fruitfully, but not on our terms. And we will never live a fruitful life outside of God’s will.

God invites you to share your plans with Him, and He will lead you down the right path. Let go of controlling your life and experience the abundant fruit God gives when He directs your steps.
