Empty or Full

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:19 ESV

Photo courtesy of pixabay and PublicDomainPictures. In exhaustion, I glanced at my gas gauge and saw it was almost empty. I’d never make it back from soccer practice to my home to grab the missing item, still have time to get gas, and then make it back in time. Now what?

I almost laughed when I refocused my attention and saw that, in fact, my gauge read almost entirely full—nowhere near empty. How could I have been so wrong? I saw the reverse of reality. Shaking my head, I continued to my next destination, thinking, Wow, I need a nap.

Sometimes, we look at our circumstances with exhausted eyes and see an empty gas tank when, in reality, the Lord has given us everything we need. I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s human nature. We expect the worst and can’t seem to let our hearts settle into the truth of His Word. We only see the difficult things that lie in front of us.

Not only does God provide all we need, He also does so superabundantly. God supplies according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. How could our eyes see lack when such fullness is readily available?

I’m not even sure our minds can come close to grasping all that Christ gave us at the exchange of the cross. The cross is where we lay down our tattered lives to grab hold of God’s saving grace.

Contemplate the fullness of the riches in the glory of Christ. Discover why you see the full gauge as almost empty. Then exchange doubt in your heart for thankful reverence.
