Spilled Coffee

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.  John 10:27 NIV

Jesus says His sheep listen to and follow Him. He gives them eternal life, and no one can snatch them from His hand.

But how does coffee relate to this? As I walked one day, coffee kept coming to my mind. It could be because the new space where I decided to write had free coffee. It may be because I love to spend time in different coffee shops, talking and praying with other women. Or maybe it was a greater reason—the reason for this writing.

Coffee awakens my brain and helps me focus. So does the Lord. I wake up every morning, go to my spot, and open my Bible to help me focus. I hear the voice of the Lord before all the other voices begin to arrive.

What I really hate, though, is when I spill coffee on my Bible. One time, I did, and it soaked the pages. No doubt, the Enemy attempted to distract me and keep me from having my morning time with the Lord. I remember early on when all those distractions tried to steer me off course. The alarm I set didn’t go off, the kids woke up early, and there were other distractions. All spilled coffee.

God wants us to wake up daily, remembering we are not alone. But that means we must spend time with Him. He desires to give us insight, clarity, and focus at the beginning of our day.

Now I expect those distractions. Early on, when I wrote, I did so in the morning. Often, my computer would go blank, fail to start, or just shut down. I learned to pray over it because what God wants to accomplish, He will.

Learn to grab what is right and true. Start your day with the Lord. Follow Jesus wherever He leads. Don't let spilled coffee distract you.
