Holding the High Ground

Praise the Lord! How joyful are those who fear the Lord and delight in obeying his commands…They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them…They are confident and fearless and can face their foes triumphantly.  Psalm 112:1, 7, 8 NIV

The rumblings of globalism, the specter of uncontrolled AI, the technology that could enable the mark of the beast, the runaway evil of our culture, and the frightful degradation of our political system can combine to terrify us. We may fear where all this is leading.

When we read and meditate on Psalm 112, we are astounded and fearless. God-fearing, obedient believers are invincible in the face of opposition. We fear nothing and no one except God.

But what if all these scary things descend upon us all at once, bringing severe persecution and disruption, even the threat of death? We can stand triumphantly and fearlessly in the face of whatever may come. We may experience some suffering in the short term.

However, we know that whatever evil may befall us can only accelerate our entry into eternal glory and blessing. Living in that eternal perspective, we can hold the high ground. We win; the forces of evil lose.

Holding that perspective, we can continue to fear the Lord only and delight in obeying His commands. Relying on God’s promises of provision, we can live generously, compassionately, and righteously in a crumbling world as we boldly proclaim the truth.

No matter what comes your way, hold the high ground.
