When I was young, a huge weeping willow tree grew in a field next to a neighbor’s yard. We held on to its long branches and swung back and forth. It was sturdy and fun and held us securely. We felt free, and it was awesome. I can still remember how much fun we all had swinging like little monkeys in the breeze.
The Bible tells us that our offspring will be like willows by the watercourses. That’s a wonderful and positive thought. Weeping willows are not slow-growing as we might think. They grow three to four feet per year and can reach heights of thirty-five to fifty feet. They are beautiful to look at and provide much shade.
It is comforting to think that God says our offspring will spring up like willows. As they follow Him, they will grow speedily as He teaches them His ways. And they will grow tall in spirit, becoming more like Jesus as He conforms them into His image.
Our offspring will provide shade for others, helping to comfort those facing a trial or living in sadness. Imagine our children transformed into those who will bless others. It cheers my heart to think of these words about my children.
What a wonderful promise to parents to hear these words. Thank God for these special words about your children. Pray that your children will follow God and grow strong and tall like the willows.
