The course was comprised of blistering clay paths and towering obstacles, ready to be traversed. I could see others panting as they ran, fatigues covered in crimson dust and faces moist from the Georgia heat. Basic training was not a stroll down a quiet beach. Instead, it was more like a dash through a bug-infested jungle. I wasn’t sure if I could make it through the tasks the drill sergeants commanded me to complete. But the day I faced “The Wall” was the moment I knew I could complete anything.
I saw the towering wall at the end of the course. But first, I needed to ascend a cargo net made of thick, wiry cable. Climbing this net led to the top of the wall. Once at the top, I was to rappel to the bottom. I had no strength left in my jelly arms, no courage anywhere to be found. I was sweating and stumbling while being positioned to leap.
When King David wrote, “With you I can attack a barricade, and with my God I can leap over a wall,” he knew he faced an insurmountable challenge and needed his strong God.
We serve this same God and can scale any wall with His strength in tow. Being a child of God means we can ask God for help in any situation. He wants and expects us to come to Him with troubles. He waits in anticipation to hear from us.
We cannot do anything on our own. But when we turn to God for support, we show Him off to the world and reveal how much we depend on Him. When we pray, we can experience His help in scaling those walls.
What keeps us from turning to God during difficult times? We reach the point when our arms are jelly, our courage is spent, and we can’t see how to finish. Yet with God, we can climb the wall, repel to the bottom, and finish the course with hands raised in victory.
Call out to the Father to help with a boost over the wall.
