I love sugar. Cookies, cakes, candy, scones, muffins—I enjoy them all. My sweet tooth is so enormous that I’m a regular customer of a local cookie shop that releases new, extravagant cookie flavors each week. I enjoy sampling all the flavors, and upon tasting each one, I love to share them with family and friends so they, too, can taste and see how wonderful these treats are.
As followers of Christ, we are invited to taste far more than sumptuous desserts. We are invited to taste and see the Lord Himself. Jesus invites us to taste His love, peace, joy, presence, and goodness every day.
Identifying Himself as the bread of life, Jesus assured His followers that whoever comes to Him will never hunger again, and whoever believes in Him will never thirst again. As the psalmist urges us, we need to taste and see. As we taste of God’s love and faithfulness, we will see that the Lord is good. Joy is in store for those who take refuge in Him.
While cookies and other sweets provide fleeting physical satisfaction, comfort, and joy, a rich relationship with Christ offers a deep and long-lasting fulfillment that satisfies the thirst of our souls and the hunger of our hearts. He satisfies like nothing this world can provide.
When we run to Jesus and seek to be filled and satisfied by Him alone, we will discover that He is good beyond anything we could hope for or imagine. We will also be encouraged to share a taste of that goodness with those around us.
The sweet satisfaction of Jesus is too good not to share. Don’t keep Him to yourself.
