Final Expectations

So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them. Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”  Acts 3:5-6 NIV

I needed a change, but I wasn’t sure what I could do about it. I have been limited in many ways, and I am only in my early sixties. But instead of wasting more time and energy on what wouldn’t work, I finally surrendered to God and asked what I could do with His help.

Since I dealt with chronic pain and low energy, my primary doctor suggested physical therapy. My body was losing its strength and flexibility. The therapist asked what my initial goal was. I wanted to get in and out of the tub so that I could enjoy a hot, soothing bath. As a widow, I lived alone, so doing this on my own was essential.

Over eight months of exercises, I regained my strength and muscle tone, reaching my goal and exceeding it. I became more active through walking and lost fifty pounds, far beyond my expectations.

God had much more in store for me, just like the lame man who wanted money but instead got to walk again. We must trust in God to know what we need and not limit His desires for us. Instead of letting discouragement drain me, I realized He had more for me. Now, as I walk to the local park and complete a full mile, I am still amazed that I regained what I had lost, and then some.

I still deal with chronic pain and low energy, but not from a chair where I feel sorry for myself. Some activities I will never return to, but I have adjusted my life to do what I can. Peter told the lame man to walk. I smile as I stroll to my park and think of how far I’ve come.

Don’t limit what God can do in you.
