Ready to Change

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.  Romans 8:28 ESV

The funny thing is, they’re not really hidden. They may be behind a curtain, but their tails are sticking out. We often drape a small blanket over the back of the couch so that one of the girls can hide under it. We’ve had them for six years, so I don’t believe they will change.

Change is an odd phenomenon. Most people dislike change, but in most cases, to achieve a better quality of life, change is necessary.

I have no idea what Noah did to survive, but I’ll bet he never thought he’d become a shipbuilder and eventually be the most famous ship captain. Moses was a herdsman and soon thereafter became the most renowned leader of the Israelites. King David was once a shepherd. Jesus’ disciples, Peter, James, and John, were once fishermen. Matthew was a tax collector. The Apostle Paul, at one time, arrested followers of Jesus. Eventually, he became a sincere defender of the faith and the author of many biblical epistles.

The change in the lives above came because God called them for a specific purpose.

As believers, we, too, have been called by God. We were called by the power of the gospel message of salvation, given gifts of the Spirit, and equipped with God’s Word to guide us down a chosen path in life.

And like all those biblical heroes, we have a planned purpose in God’s kingdom. I don’t know what anyone else’s specific purpose is, but God has used me for many years to serve youth and children—to share the gospel with them and help them prepare for service in God’s kingdom.

Don’t be surprised if what you thought you’d be doing isn’t where God wants you. Be open to God’s call to serve and take that leap in faith. Remember, you’ve been chosen. You are destined to play an important role in His kingdom, so go for it.
