I love my home. I have moved many times, but everywhere I lived, I loved and took pride in my dwelling place. Some homes were large, others tiny. Some needed a lot of loving care; others were move-in ready. Each home, however, always provided shelter and warmth, a place to eat and sleep, to be loved and encouraged by family, to mature and grow in wisdom, and yes, even to find protection and escape from long days at work and the burdens of the world.
When I read today’s Scripture, the thought of the Lord being our home resonated deeply within me, for it is so true.
Within a Christian’s relationship with God, we discover an eternal home where all our needs are met now and forever. Whom do we turn to but the Lord for encouragement and wisdom, especially when all else fails? In whom do we discover food and maturity for the mind and soul in the truth of His Word and the guidance of His Spirit? Within the warmth of God’s everlasting love and forgiveness, we find shelter, a place to rest, protection, and an escape from the never-ending burdens of this world.
Much like the wonderful things our earthly homes provide for us, our eternal home in the Lord does likewise for all who believe, no matter where we live or how often we move.
What an awesome and wonderful Lord we serve and are loved by, for indeed He is our home. He is our place of refuge and renewal now and forever. Let us therefore take pride in Him as our dwelling place and be prepared to share this amazing truth with those who are spiritually homeless. God desires that all should find their eternal home in Him through belief in Christ Jesus, our Lord.
Be a person of hospitality, always open to inviting others to dwell within God’s love and forgiveness.
