Sowing with Tears, Reaping with Shouts

Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.  Psalm 126:5 NIV

After a prolonged season of delays which were not God’s denials—after pressure had increased like the birth pains before the blessing of the gift of life—the Lord finally fulfilled His perfect promise to me in due season.

During that time, when the pressure had increased in every aspect and tears had been flowing as I waited patiently and with expectancy, I learned one of the most important lessons I had yet to know about the laws and spiritual realities of sowing and reaping. Although the reaping may tarry, if done under the will of the Lord, I would experience the harvest and victory the Lord had intended for me. I was reminded to be faithful during the difficult seasons. The storms of life were the royal curtain before being ushered into God’s holy presence.

All throughout Scripture, evidence abounds of the Lord’s steadfast commitment to covenant love. One of the constant themes is the promises He has given to the saints throughout time. And as with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Samson, and King David, the Lord then set the stage for the fulfillment of the promises. None of them were sinless or did everything God asked, but that didn’t make the fulfillment of the promise impossible. His promises would be fulfilled at the appointed time. Although delayed and with many tears, there would be shouts and songs of joy for those who persisted in faith and didn’t give up.

May we, despite all the delays and birth pains before the fulfillment of the promise, remember that God will fulfill His promises. Imitate the steadfast faith of the saints. While doing so, consider the many wonders of the Lord as we seek His word and delight ourselves in Him.
