Who do you identify with? What do you place your identity in?
The world often defines identity as follows: “Who you are, the way you think about yourself, the way you are viewed by the world, and the characteristics that define you.”
Once, when I was in my husband’s car, Siri started talking to us. I don’t remember what we were talking about, but suddenly Siri answered. My husband thought it would be cute to ask Siri to call him something else when she addressed him. He said, “Siri, will you call me Buddy?” To which she responded, “From now on, your name will be Buddy.” We laughed, but immediately I thought about how easy it is to be called by a different name.
That worldly definition of identity exhausts me. The Bible says otherwise. I don’t identify with worldly identity. No longer must I live that way. I get to live a new life. My old way of thinking can be tossed out the window, and I can receive the mind of Christ. I don’t evaluate my human characteristics. Instead, I learn and grow in Christ through what He brings to me.
The way Artificial Intelligence can change and save our names is the same way we save names that don’t belong to us. Guilty, unworthy, stupid, scatterbrained. But our names in Christ are Chosen, Beloved, Righteous, Called, Forgiven, and Prized Possession. We have the mind of Christ.
Take inventory of the thoughts and names you call yourself. Then step into what God calls you. Allow the Lord to address you by your chosen name.
