Heaven on Earth

Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Matthew 6:10 NIV

As the days unfold with changes and challenges, I find myself in disbelief, shaking my head in disapproval. I realize that I have no control over what happens. The problems and circumstances that weigh down the world weigh on me, and at times, I feel overwhelmed and helpless. I find myself crying out to the Lord, asking why and how much longer evil will continue in the world. I long for heaven on earth.

But I am reminded of my role, which is to be the salt of the earth to preserve what is good and true and the light standing for God’s truth and goodness. Additionally, the commission to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ remains unchanged.

To maintain my joy and peace, and most importantly, to emulate Jesus, I must find ways to bring heaven to earth (Matthew 6:10). We can describe heaven as a continuous illumination of light from God’s presence, as He dwells among His people—a place of peace and joy. To succeed in bringing heaven to earth, I must keep my eyes fixed on Christ and aligned with His heart, purpose, and plans. He has given me the power of the Holy Spirit, which allows me to do all things. Therefore, I must shift my energy from feeling powerless and frustrated to one of humility as I love my neighbors, show compassion, help those in need, intercede on behalf of others, and forgive. I must show peace amidst the chaos and confusion and joy in the trials and unpleasant circumstances.

As you start each day, think of ways that you can bring a little heaven to earth.
