The oncology tech handed me the fanny pack with phase two of my bi-weekly chemotherapy. It held the chemicals and the pump to deliver my treatment over the next forty-eight hours.
I stood up to leave, and he said, “Wait a minute. You need to take this too.”
Then he handed me a yellow box with black labeling that read, Hazardous Materials Spill Kit.
“Use this if your needle comes out of your port and spills some of the chemo. There are instructions and materials in the box on how to clean it up and dispose of any spills. It is poison.”
Great, I thought, I’m putting poison into my body for the next forty-eight hours, and this is supposed to cure me.
But cure me, it did. Well, God did. After six months of chemotherapy, I was showing no signs of cancer, and thirteen years later, I am still cancer-free.
Isn’t it interesting that the first time God refers to himself as the Lord God who heals, Jehovah Rapha, He deals with making bitterness sweet (Exodus 15:25)? Everyone has experienced bitterness, be it the death of a loved one, the breakup of a relationship, or not getting a job or promotion they wanted. But God can take every bitter situation and turn it into a blessing so that something sweet comes from it.
If God can take actual poison and turn it into a cure, He can easily take the bitter waters in your life and make them sweet. Ask God to show you what you need to do for Him to turn your current bitterness into something sweet.
