Participating in church services and programs is one of the best ways to develop relationships. I’ve had the privilege of being in ministries such as drama teams, choirs and ensembles, writers’ critique and sharing groups, Bible studies, and small groups of couples or women only. As each group pursues its purpose, deeper and more meaningful individual friendships result.
But not everyone is on the same level in their faith journey (2 Corinthians 1:24). Some have longstanding histories with Jesus. Others are new in their trust and reliance on God. A few, although meeting Jesus early in life, are still struggling with their beliefs. As tempting as it is to direct and impose my understanding of how everyone should act as a believer, I must remember that the relationship with God is as unique as each individual.
Our faith leads us to stand firmly in this spiritual journey. We can’t grab the faith someone else has. Jesus brings each one of us into a personal relationship with Him through the Holy Spirit’s power. The faith of others can inspire us, give us examples, and draw us into ministry for God. But we must make it ours. Faith is between God and us. Then there will be no shaking loose from His grip.
Where are you on your faith journey? Don’t rely on the faith of those around you to get you through life. Experience the joy that comes when you are in God’s grip for life and eternity.
