Another holiday? I couldn’t imagine what. This isn’t a holiday. Or at least I thought it wasn’t.
It turned out to be National Show the World Day, National Peanut Lovers Day, Equal Pay Day, and the list goes on and on, but the one that struck a chord was National Quilt Day. You see, my mother will turn one hundred years old this year. Her health is perfect. She manages well, though her fingers are stiff with arthritis. Still, she’s an award-winning master quilter. My mom promises a queen-sized quilt every other month, and she keeps her promise. She’s amazing in how she takes fabric, clips, and snips, and turns them into works of art.
God made a covenant with His chosen people (Deuteronomy 7:9). He would give them the promised land. A land of milk and honey. Despite His children’s wayward disposition, God never reneged on His promise. There were some hard moments when the Lord rained down discipline, but the ultimate love for His children led Him to keep His word.
Throughout Scripture—from Genesis to Revelation—we see God’s unshakeable love and promise of salvation. Heaven. Eternal life. God’s promise was upheld to the children of Israel, and it continues today through the sacrifice of Christ to a thousand generations.
When I look at my mother’s quilts, I see not only her skill and handiwork but also a promise she’s kept for years—a quilt every other month. My brother and I realize our days are numbered with our mother, and we cherish each one. God has gifted her to us for one hundred years, and He’s gifted her with the ability to craft her quilts beautifully and to keep her promise.
Our God is faithful. He is unchanging, and His Word is golden. When you feel as though you are alone and forgotten, remember He is the omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent God who keeps His promises.
God does not fail, and He never will.
