A Devotion May Be Someone's Only Bible

He IS Risen

After he has suffered, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities.  Isaiah 53:11 NIV

In an interview with Bill Maher, Charlie Kirk, an amazing warrior of God, clarified why saying He is risen over He was risen makes an important difference. “If you say He was risen, meheh. It’s like it’s just merely a historical event. It almost underplays the metaphysics of it.”

Maher did his best to say that it amazed him that intellectual minds would argue something so stupid. Still, Kirk, in his calm, unwavering confidence in his faith, flipped the tables and showed Maher the impact of a single word.

He pointed out that something as simple as a verb could change the entire perspective on the resurrection. The truth that Christ is risen, and still is, in fact, risen, brings a new meaning to what we have in Christ’s victory over death.

Isaiah’s prophecy of Christ, His recognition of who He is, and His suffering give us a snapshot of what Christ would face hundreds of years prior to His coming. But more so, this prophecy concludes with this one beautiful line: After he has suffered, he will see the light of life… The foretelling of Christ’s resurrection. The fact that Christ is risen gives us an unending and eternal promise that God will do what He says He will do.

Christ suffered and died to … justify many. And by that death and resurrection HE HAS borne our iniquities, paid the blood price, and is risen (Isaiah 53:11). And all the people said, “Hallelujah and amen.”

Today, we celebrate victory over death and recognize that Christ was not just risen but that He is risen. That He was pierced for our transgressions, crushed by our iniquities, and by His wounds we are healed.

You may or may not agree with Charlie Kirk on certain levels, but you cannot argue his confidence in the sacrifice of Jesus. One tiny word changes the entire worldview of the resurrection. Lift your hands in praise and shout that Christ the Lord is risen.

May this Easter remind you of a debt lovingly paid in full.
