Wrestling with Faith

"For we walk by faith, not by sight [living our lives in a manner consistent with our confident belief in God’s promises]."  2 Corinthians 5:7 AMP

Many people do the same, consciously or subconsciously. We depend on our income to solve our problems, especially in first-world countries.

I’m half Nigerian and lived in Nigeria for a couple of years when I was seven. I saw poverty I had never seen in America. Christians in Nigeria must depend much more on their faith to get by daily.

Jacob was a man who initially did not walk by faith either. Everything was about him. He stole the birthright from his older brother, Esau. But later, when he wrestled with God, God touched his hip, disabling him. Jacob came away with a limp that slowed him down and gave him a new identity. He would no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, or “God-wrestler.”

Jacob could not have wrestled with God in his own strength. God gave him the strength to wrestle with Him. God forced Jacob to rely on Him to survive the fight. He had to do it by faith. Then, by faith, he faced a brother he thought was mad at him and survived.

So, I will continue to wrestle with my mindset, replacing my fear of lack with faith that the Lord will provide for my needs no matter how much money I have in my bank account.

Think of unhealthy mindsets you may have. Then surrender them to the Lord and live by faith, not fear.
