The Red Bridge

I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.  John 14:6 NKJV

During his time in England, I took a trip to Belgium sponsored by the travel agency on base. Because he couldn’t get out of work, I had to go alone. I was scared to do this because I am not an adventurous person, but I wanted to see Belgium.

This twenty-four-hour bus trip required departure at 3:00 a.m. We crossed the English Channel on a ferry, drove through parts of France, and finally arrived at Brugge, Belgium, around 9:00 a.m. We were instructed to return to the motorcoach at a certain time to remain on schedule.

Being a person not gifted with navigational skills, I contemplated how I could keep from getting lost while I toured the city. How can I get back to this parking lot? I wondered. I noticed a red bridge up ahead. If I looked for that red bridge, I could find my way back again.

I walked up and down streets, remembering buildings as landmarks. As the time approached to return to the bus, I sought that path to my deliverance. Scarlet color up ahead. But my relief immediately transformed into panic. This was not the same access point.

Fear of being left behind filled my mind as I ran up and down streets searching for the correct connection to the parking lot. Finally, I saw the one that led to my transportation. I climbed into the vehicle, out of breath, but relieved I wasn’t going to be left alone in a foreign country.

I was lost because I didn’t follow the correct way to the parking lot. Many lost people don’t follow the correct way to God, and unfortunately, never find salvation (John 14:6).

False religions can blind us into believing there are multiple ways to be saved. But there is only one way to the forgiveness of sin.

If you don’t know the one true God, reach out to Him. He will draw you across the red bridge of Jesus’ blood into His presence. Accepting the Son’s sacrifice is the only way to get you there.
