You Are Everything to Me

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].  Proverbs 18:21 AMPC

I thought about it and perceived that God was not everything to me. It startled me because I had honestly thought He was. But I had longings and dreams more important than my loving heavenly Father. The Lord knew my heart, but He also wanted to open my eyes.

I found it very strange to start telling the Lord, “You are everything to me. You are the love and joy of my life.” I said it out of obedience. I uttered those words completely without emotion, mainly because He had not answered the greatest longing of my heart.

Yet several times a day, I told God He was my everything and the love and joy of my life. I felt uncomfortable saying these words because I felt like a liar. I knew in my heart that I did not mean the words. But it became a habit for me.

About a year after I started repeating this phrase, I thought about what God meant to me, and I realized that He had indeed become everything to me. He had truly become the love and joy of my life. I was amazed and overjoyed.

Although I had started quoting this phrase without any emotion—which I was quite embarrassed about—little by little, those words transformed my whole life and attitude. God became the joy and love of my life. He really became everything to me and still is.

Ask the Lord for a phrase He would like you to tell Him daily. The words He gives you contain life and light. They will transform your life and relationship with Him.
