I once had to deal with a woman who used gossip and manipulation to cause me pain. Her actions separated our relationship, ruined other friendships and communities that I was a part of, and caused her and me a lot of pain. She used sabotage, manipulation, gossip, and other forms of verbal and emotional abuse to suppress the truth. Gossip’s fallout can be horrible.
I am still dealing with the fallout. Despite the havoc she and others have wrought, I trust in the Lord God to redeem what was lost, to expose and bring justice to her and others on my behalf, and to restore the damage she and her accomplices have caused me.
Gossip, slander, and character assassination are not easy things to deal with, especially when they are topped off with betrayal from those who were supposed to be your friends. Naboth faced the same (1 Kings 21:10). But the Lord God comforts the downcast and the brokenhearted and is there with us even when others try to use such detestable practices to control our lives and act like busybodies.
When dealing with such people and the destruction they bring, it is important to lean close to the Lord God through the circumstances of our lives and to trust that, as the Lord brings about His will for our good and His glory, He will do so for those who love Him and are called according to His purposes.
The Lord God who made a way for Joseph when others intended to do him harm, who made a way for Daniel when he was falsely accused, and who made a way for Jesus when He went to the cross can make a way even when there seems to be no way.
Trust God when gossip comes your way.
