Getting Our Attention

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.  Jeremiah 29:13 NIV

In Algeria, I met a former Muslim who had opened his heart to Christ after listening to a radio broadcast. Although he met no other Christians for the next twelve years, his loyalty to Jesus never faltered.

As a journalist, I have spoken with people around the world who have heard God speaking to them through chance meetings with strangers, dreams, random Scripture thrust into their hands, and healing. Such stories fill me with wonder. Why should our Creator show such persistence and determination in revealing Himself?

The Bible affirms that God has always initiated contact with humans. He spoke to Moses through a burning bush, to Abraham through an angelic visitor, and to Balaam through a donkey. Others experienced dreams and visions.

The common denominator between those biblical characters and people today is the passion to know if God is real. Scripture explains that we will find Him when we search for Him with all our hearts (Jeremiah 29:13). He rewards those who truly want to find Him, or “diligently seek Him” as the King James Version translates it.

The question is how intent we are to meet the one who made us and loved us enough to send his Son to earth. He even gave us a Book so we could know Him better. Unfortunately, we can settle for a nominal, Sunday-only relationship, cheating ourselves out of the rich day-by-day and hour-by-hour companionship that God desires.

If you sincerely seek the Father’s presence, He will never turn away. He will meet you more than halfway.
