I had just received some intense spiritual training for a week. When I returned to our summer house, I was pretty worn out. I stepped out of the car onto my overgrown lawn, looked at the garden beds in need of weeding, and was tempted to launch into work mode. But this time, I decided otherwise and learned the power of creativity again.
I love the way the Lord comes and meets us when, amid chores and to-do lists, we take the time to wait for Him. He comes and puts our lives into balance again.
I am creative. I love writing and designing beautiful backgrounds for quotes or Bible verses to post on social media. So, I put on worship music and began to create. I did something I truly loved, and His presence came like a flood. It was so precious and beautiful. Nothing in life is better than God’s presence.
Yet again, I was reminded that we are the carriers of God’s presence. God receives glory when we do what we love, and people get touched through the creative process. We worship Him when we use our gifts and talents.
We sometimes forget that creativity comes from the Lord. He loves to partner with us on all kinds of projects. In this portion of Scripture, we read that the Lord filled someone with His Spirit. And the person was a craftsman, not a priest or a Levite (Exodus 31:3-4). There is great power in God-inspired skillful craftsmanship.
If you love to cook, then cook and worship God with your gift. If you love to knit, then worship Him through doing it well. Perhaps you take delight in fixing cars. Take time to enjoy the gifts God has given you to serve others. We worship Him by allowing Him to flow through us in skillful craftsmanship. And, by the way, the lawn got mowed too.
